sidenote on thanksgiving

The day after Thanksgiving my family got together, which means my parents were in the same space. (They haven’t been married for about 30 years.) My mom got us all scratchers. We were all scratching away around the brunch table, when I noticed my dad didn’t know what to do. He was watching us scratch the cards. It wouldn’t surprise me if he’d never heard about scratcher lottery cards—I don’t think he realized there was a prize if you won; I think he thought it was a weird party game he didn’t quite get. Likewise, I think he thinks Donald Trump is a business man and not a guy who plays a business man on TV.
