I bought this record for a dollar because I love the cover artist, B. Kliban. (I love this cover. This might be one of the best album covers ever made.) I didn’t really expect to play it, really not even once. It’s the guy who does the Car Talk theme, which I’ve heard enough.
But: if you are testing out some speakers and you think you want them, play this record, because unless the speakers are junk it’s gonna sound great.
Also, in the middle of all the bluegrass or whatever David Bromberg plays, there’s this one song, written by a Canadian guy I’ve never heard of named Murray McLachlan. Is it too sentimental? Any song has to be a little bit sentimental, I mean appeal to your sentiment, or else what is it for? Should I not like the sound of the nice sounding professional backup singers? I feel like I should put up an irony barrier when they come in, but I don’t want to. If you don’t listen to the words, it sounds really sentimental, but it’s got a dark side in the words.
Anyway, test your stereo on this.
