So easy to imagine never coming back to work.

help desk fail

I just got told that I’m not getting tracking e-mails from the Enterprise Help Desk because I’m using Apple Mail instead of Entourage. Hey, we are an internet technology company. If my receiving mail depends on using a particular program: you’re doing it wrong.

observations on basketball from someone who hasn’t observed it all that much

Apparently the most interesting thing that happened in the world yesterday was that Lebron James, 25, of Ohio, decided to go play for another team than the one he’s always played for. The team he’ll be joining is talent-rich, though the presence of salary caps in the NBA means that part of the roster will be filled out with bargain players (and choosing those guys from the talent pool is about as big a skill as picking the ones who are obviously good). This bizarre escalation of interest in a single free agent has actually made me interested in basketball for the first time ever, in that I want to see Lebron not win (like I enjoyed seeing the overpaid face-stomper Albert Haynesworth not win with the Washington Redskins, who I dislike). Not sure I can work up the patience to actually watch a game though. I’ve only ever seen one basketball game, and that was a contest betweem the UT Chattanooga Moccasins (still a great team name, UTC) and Texas Christian University, who did not show up to play. I remember two things; the lopsided final score (Mocs won, 100-30) and the infernal SQUEAKING OF THE SHOES. How anybody tolerates that I don’t know. I thought maybe they had eliminated it but it seems that’s not the case.

Anyway, I have been enjoying John De Shazier’s apocalyptic writing in the New Orleans Times-Picayune about the struggles of Chris Paul and the New Orleans Hornets (again, never seen them play but I love the town and the Saints) so maybe I’ll actually see a game this season. Of course no matter who is playing, all the talk is going to be about Lebron James and what a villain or what a hero he is. It’s going to be like pro wrestling in that regard. Maybe that’s why I’m interested.

In college my band Everything Tool used to cover the Nazareth song “Hair Of The Dog.” (It was the flip side of the single “Love Hurts”, which parents must have guessed was o.k. for the kids. I think everybody who bought it must have wanted the flip, because Nazreth’s “Love Hurts” is….not great.)
It’s kind of the ultimate “more cowbell” song, by the way.
I drew this at work while waiting for somebody from IT to come install Microsoft Visual Studio 2008 for me.
