Bushwick Highlights: Irving Avenue, 2010

A drunk sounding man is doing a dramatic recitation of “Hello” by Lionel Richie on Irving Avenue In Bushwick. I really think bullets are about to fly.

HTML5 and the modern web developer

I got another job inquiry asking for my portfolio of HTML5 sites.
I never know how to answer these, as I have a sad tendency to be honest, which in the eyes of these recruiters sometimes makes you look a little bit sad.
But the sad, sad fact is I haven’t built any HTML5 sites yet.
At no place I’ve worked (and there have been some big ones) has it ever been even mentioned.

I’m excited to try it actually, though I’m not sure what to do about the browsers that don’t support it (which may be all of them at the time of this writing).
I did start reading up on the new features so as not to say inadvertently arrogant things if somebody asks me about it.
I also ordered the nice-looking book from A Book Apart that Jeremy Keith wrote and borough neighbor Jason Santa Maria designed.
I’m curious about the datagrid feature. Also wouldn’t be too unhappy to lose ‘div’ as a major element as I have never loved the name, because it means so little to anyone who isn’t a web designer or developer.

I would appreciate any comments on HTML5 from early adopters, haters, or those who are just confused like me…

this week on Treme

In this week’s episode, two parties were scheduled for the same time, and the sententious college professor demonstrated the value of a liberal arts education by choosing to jump off the Algiers ferry instead of continuing to live with his do-gooder lawyer wife and their precocious child in a big mansion.

the family that stays together plays together

I took this picture on the Mississippi River levee in New Orleans. A whole family haging out in a playpen. Not sure why they needed it; where did they think the kid was gonna go?
The same bike trip I saw a car wreck and aa three-legged dog catching a Frisbee.
